Colossal what?

After scanning through the colossal u advertisement, my first impression of this university was shock and dismay. i never thought that any university would promote such negative ideas to our generation especially in this century. the advertisement left me in shock because i have been raised and surrounded by people who have encouraged me to be who i am and pursue a career i wanted while still being me. it left me wondering, do we still live in a society where the only way to live, is inside a box?
However, when i visited the 'colossal u' website, i learned that a colossal university never existed after all. instead a woman appeared talking about Algoma University which was the exact opposite of 'colossal u'. in this website, i learned that Alogoma provided their students with their undivided attention and promoted individuality within their students. their website showed both students and professors from the university talking about how the university tries to accommodate their students in ways that other universities can't. the colossal u ads was just an advertisement technique to get the public aware.

i think that they used the 'colossal u' advertisements to lure the people who were outraged by the advertisements into visiting their website. I'm pretty sure that one of the teachers were outraged enough after reading the advertisements for colossal u that they just had to visit the website and make their students blog about it. i think that if i were to see the same advertisement on the bus somewhere, i would probably do the same, but what about those who weren't mad enough to check the website out themselves? they would probably continue on with their lives still thinking that and actual colossal university existed.word may spread about how horrible of a school that colossal university is, when in fact it was only used for advertisement. all i know is, that this colossal u ad has both a positive and negative impact on the university and the general public. firstly, the ad may have caused an increase in the number of visitors they had for their website from shocked people who, from the looks of it, were angered by the ads. second, it may also impact them negatively because not everyone will even check if a colossal u actually exist, instead talk might spread about colossal university and how it stands for everything that Alogoma university does not.

In our generation, the use of cell phones especially between teens have definitely grown. Everywhere you turn you'll see someone talking excessively on their phone; from the bus stop to classrooms, everyone seems to be on their phone 24/7! Although i think using a cell phone is beneficial to a person, it can also be dangerous for the users and the people around them. For instance, talking on the phone while driving is risky business, a careless action such as talking on the phone can easily take you to a trip the hospital. Along with using a cell phone while driving, i also think that the use of cell phones during class is inappropriate and disrespectful. i think that students should not be distracted from a learning environment so that they could talk and mingle with their friends. i must say however, there have been incidents where my cell phone has gone off during class, and frankly I was embarrassed. i was embarrassed because i disturbed my whole class and interrupted by teacher from giving the seminar!:( then there are those who are talk on their cell phones as if it was a mega phone; it's rude enough when people talk on their phones in a public place where people can hear every word you say, but when the whole city can hear what you ate for dinner last night, that is just plain crossing the line. Even though we get caught up in our personal or social life and our only way out may be our cell phones, we should learn to be more considerate when using our phones especially when there are people around us.

5 Necessary rules when using a cell phone

1.) Do not talk on you cell phone while driving- it eliminates the risk and dangers that comes along for both drivers and passengers.

2.) Cell phone devices must be turn off in the school building- this eliminates further distractions for students and teachers

3.) Cell phones should not be allowed during meetings or conferences- allows members of the meeting or conference put their full attention towards their discussion

4.) Cell phones should be put on vibrate while in restaurants etc. - a cell phone ringing may disturb the whole atmosphere of room.

5.) Cell phones should be turned off during work- employers should not use their cell phones during work because it can distract them from doing their job.

i think that growing up in this generation definitely has some benefits, one including technology. As i watched the video clip of Conan O'Brien and his guest Louis C.K, I realized how i sometimes take for granted technology and the affect it has in my life. I'll admit that after waiting for more than 5 seconds for a website to load, i will complain like there is no tomorrow. i will start ranting on about how slow my internet is, oblivious to the fact that some teenagers in other parts of the world do not get the chance to enjoy the use of a computer at all. i think that my expectations for technology and the speed that it delivers are very high because i have been surrounded with it for all my life.

if you asked teens if they would be able to survive without technology, I'm pretty sure most of them would reply 'no' in a heart beat, but if you think about it, our parents were able to survive without iPods, facebook and what not, so why can't
we? i mean, is it necessary to text your best friend when you know fully well that you should be paying attention to the trigonometry seminar that you teacher is giving the class at that moment. look at our parents, they turned out perfectly fine without being surrounded with the amount of technology that we have today (what did they have anyways? a typewriter?) when i asked my parents about growing up with technology, they were fast to reply that the closest thing they had to technology was a typewriter. While i'm using a laptop to compose all of my units they were stuck with a paper and pencil. it really made me realize how far we all went regarding with technology and what it does for our lives.yes, technology does make it easier for us to communicate with others around us and even around the world, but are we taking it too far? Everywhere we look, there always seems to be the latest version a blackberry that just came out a month ago. at the rate that we're going, who knows what we won't invent.

I think that technology has a way of entertaining our society but it can also challenge and enhance our minds. Technology has made it convenient for students to learn in the comfort of their own home, but technology also has the power brainwash our heads by luring us to buy the latest gadgets and devices, this and that!

i think that with technology, it can create a positive or negative effect on person, it just depends on how they use it.
